Brief

Northacre, a leading London property developer, reached out to We Are Placemaking to organise an event at Orchard Place, to screen the exciting games of the Wimbledon Tournament 2023.

The client wanted this creative placemaking concept to reach the surrounding community, including local businesses, offices and tenants. They wanted to enhance the public realm with a range of activities to be enjoyed by guests of all ages.

To increase brand awareness and engagement within the area, the client wanted the area to be a hub of the community, with a brand concept that involved the furniture, activities and tenants.

What we did

Working within the client’s brief, we wanted to create a lively event that would engage the surrounding community and bring people together.  From tennis enthusiasts to visitors just looking for a fun afternoon in the sunshine, our screenings kept them on the edge of their seats throughout the week!

As part of this creative placemaking concept, we wanted the event to activate all five senses to fully immerse guests in an unforgettable experience.

We Are Placemaking produced an engaging area for guests to enjoy the screenings of the Wimbledon games, with a seating area with colour-themed deck chairs and picnic tables and Orchard Place branded ping-pong tables for guests looking to get into the competitive spirit.

In addition, we wanted to ensure Orchard Place’s identity remained at the core of the event, and we  worked alongside a designer and artist who created a bespoke art-piece to decorate the area in front of the screen. This decoration incorporated both the client’s brand message and the theme from Wimbledon, with colourful flower and botanic inspired cut outs, alongside tennis balls and tennis courts.

Guests could enjoy food from a variety of delicious food traders throughout the week, including Farmer J, Margo & Rita, Man in Pasta, and Araw ice creams. With the addition of a beautiful bar van courtesy of Beetle Juice, guests were able to enjoy Wimbledon-themed cocktails and mocktails during the matches.

Guests enjoying an event in the moment is always of utmost importance and we were thrilled to be able to provide a such memorable and sensational experience in the heart of historic Westminster’s public realm.

The event was extremely successful, achieving a footfall of over 10,000 over the week and keeping the area full during the most exciting matches. Especially the final – what a game!

It was truly game, set and match for this London Placemaking project!
