Brief

Mark, a multi-platform investment manager specialising in real estate, approached We Are Placemaking for the second year running to reimagine Borough Yards with a modern festive theme for the Christmas season. The aim was to create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere that would draw visitors into the space and establish Borough Yards as a must-visit festive destination. The focus was on increasing footfall by attracting more visitors, encouraging community engagement by fostering a welcoming and festive environment, extending dwell time by inviting people to explore and enjoy the space, and ultimately showcasing Borough Yards as the destination to experience the festivities of Christmas.

What we did

To bring this vision to life, we transformed Borough Yards with a striking festive installation that enhanced the space and created a warm, seasonal atmosphere.

Festive garlands were draped along Dirty Lane and the main Borough Yards entrances, setting a welcoming tone for visitors as they entered. A beautifully decorated 10ft Christmas tree became a central focal point, adding to the festive charm. The tunnels were illuminated with vibrant green and red lighting caps, casting a warm glow throughout the area, while a captivating gift gobo projection took centre stage, catching the eye of passersby. Snowflake gobos were also projected onto the floor, adding a playful winter wonderland effect that further enriched the festive ambience.

The Christmas light installation was a huge success, attracting thousands of visitors each day. Many took the opportunity to stop, capture photos, and immerse themselves in the festive setting. It has been a pleasure to bring Borough Yards to life for Christmas once again.
