Brief

Mark, a growing multi-platform investment manager integrated in the real estate business, reached out to We Are Placemaking to organise the launch of their new area at Borough Yards.

The client’s vision for this creative placemaking concept was to engage the surrounding community by developing a food market in the heart of Borough Yards. Their aim was to enrich the public realm by showcasing this beautiful renovated space and its exceptional tenants to guests. Additionally, they sought to raise awareness of new developments among occupiers and encourage a sense of community, socialisation and interaction among the tenants and workers.

Mark wanted to seize the opportunity to celebrate the newly developed public realm area and highlight unique and distinctive features of Borough Yards. This included enhancing their arches to attract more footfall throughout the entire area.

What we did

When curating our response, we carefully considered the different elements necessary to create an impactful and exciting experience. Our goal was to showcase Borough Yards as a new vibrant destination and leaving a lasting impression on visitors with this placemaking project.

We recognised the importance of enhancing the Food and Beverages and lifestyle market that Borough Yards encompasses and therefore we liaised with their different tenants to integrate them into the extended commercial area. This collaborative effort not only invited visitors to engage with the expanded space, but also increased footfall and commercial value of the space.

To encourage engagement and interaction, we produced a designed wayfinding signage system with different vinyls scattered throughout the area. This allowed visitors around the area to notice and explore the dynamic environment of Borough Yards in central London.

Most importantly, we produced striking and vivid visuals to enhance the railway arches. We adorned the space with bold and colourful giant bunting, artfully contrasting against the brickwork. The main arch, adorned with eye-catching bunting, became a photo-worthy attraction, drawing attention to the main patio area.

The results of the event were truly exceptional. The event was extremely successful, attracting 16,000 visitors – a 173% increase on the year prior. It also generated high social media engagement, and long-lasting connections developed between the visitors and surrounding stakeholders. All-in-all, a great success from this London Placemaking project!
