Brief

Mark, a multi-platform investment manager integrated in the real estate business, reached out to We Are Placemaking to re-design their area at Borough Yards with a modern festive theme.

The creative placemaking concept for Borough Yards aimed to transform the area into a more festive environment, aligning with the client’s vision. The goal was to enhance the public realm by showcasing this beautiful, renovated space and its outstanding tenants to visitors. Furthermore, the design was intended to raise awareness of new occupiers, entice and engage with the community whilst fostering a sense of socialisation and interaction among both tenants and guests.

Mark wanted to seize the opportunity to celebrate the newly developed public realm areas and highlight unique and distinctive features of Borough Yards. This included enhancing their arches to attract more footfall throughout the entire area. We also made sure we were activating all the new areas by utilising their tunnels and wall fronts.

What we did

When curating our response, we carefully considered the different elements necessary to create an impactful and exciting experience. Our goal was to showcase Borough Yards as a new vibrant destination and leaving a lasting impression on visitors with this permanent placemaking project.

We recognised the importance of enhancing their beautiful brickwork throughout the whole site, especially in the more secluded areas and, therefore, we set out to showcase them with striking lighting in red and green colours, alongside white snowflake projections on the floors and walls of the space. This allowed visitors around the area to notice and explore the dynamic environment of Borough Yards in central London. We adorned the space with bold and colourful lighting, creating a warm Christmas feel, which became a photo-worthy attraction, drawing attention to the different areas in Borough Yards and encouraging footfall and increasing dwell time in the area.

The Christmas Light installation at Borough Yards was a huge success, with thousands of visitors exploring the area, an increase in footfall and dwell time, and a notable rise in social media engagement. All-in-all, a great success from this London Placemaking project!
