Brief

The We Are Placemaking team has produced a huge range of London placemaking projects before, as well as placemaking projects across the UK and further afield. We were therefore given the exciting opportunity to produce and style the after party for The World’s 50 Best Bars Awards, at a brand new restaurant in Vauxhall, Oxeye.

We Are Placemaking were briefed to create a house party feel in the two floored venue. As well as supplying event staff, a cloakroom, additional toilet facilities, audio and entertainment. We Are Placemaking were also tasked with creating a snug outdoor area with a log cabin feel. Incorporating new lighting into the venue.

What we did

In December, we had the pleasure of transforming Oxeye restaurant into The World’s Best Bars after party. During the pre-production phase, we visited Oxeye several times, speaking with our clients and discussing various decorative and production elements with suppliers. The client’s told us that they wanted to incorporate colourful lighting into the venue, creating a house party feel and to also include additional toilet facilities, which proved challenging given the limited access. We wanted to use as many local suppliers as possible and so using London/South East London based companies was at the forefront of our minds.

During the live event, we had entertainment in the form of fire breathers who guided our guests from their drop off location to the venue entrance, creating a real hype amidst the cold December night. Guests were then welcomed into a bustling room of colourful ceiling lights, drink sponsors and a live DJ playing an array of disco and tropical house. Towards the far end of the venue, an added cloakroom was in full operation. In the dining room, We Are Placemaking placed additional poseur tables with flower arrangements made by a local florist. Oxeye owner, Head Chef and Master Chef The Professionals winner Sven-Hanson Britt, and his team were serving exquisite food. From soft shell crab bao buns to deluxe cheese and pickle toasties; the perfect antidote to soak up the alcohol. On the second floor, an audio feed from the DJ flooded through speakers, giving an additional house party feel throughout the venue.

The client had asked us to create an outdoor area with a log cabin/ wintery feel. We dressed the pre-existing outdoor seating with sheepskin covers, fluffy throws and soft cushions. To add more intimate lighting, we had up-lighters put in the trees nearby and lined sofas with lanterns and fake candles.

As well as all the above, We had our team over at We Are Ops provide all the event health and safety services.
