Brief

We Are Placemaking were asked by Victoria BID to create a Winter activation concept for December 2021. The theme of the activation was après ski lodge with live dates 8th – 12th December. This included 9 pop up Chalets and domes dotted in various venues around South West London. They wanted the chalets to provide an opportunity for local businesses to take over and be involved in the Winter Event. All core elements would be produced and managed by the We Are Placemaking team.

Having produced many other London placemaking projects before, as well as placemaking projects across the UK and further afield, the We Are Placemaking team were keen to get involved.

What we did

We had the pleasure of transforming Victoria and the Northbank District in a festive wonderland. We installed 10 wooden chalets that were hosted by various Hotels and venues, which created a magical winter trail for guests to follow whilst enjoying delicious festive offerings. Each chalet had its own Christmas theme, everything you can imagine from baubles and snow, to candy canes and gingerbread. All of which we styled and dressed our team, whilst also working closely with all stakeholders involved to ensure they had everything they needed for the live event.

In addition to all the wonderful festive chalets, we also installed two clear domes, one in Victoria Embankment Gardens and the other in Eccleston Yards. These were turned into cosy warm spaces complete with sheepskin rugs, soft furnishings, garlands and pea lights. Over the course of the live event these domes were taken over by independent businesses hosting gorgeous Christmas themed workshops. We saw wreath making, chocolate and wine tasting plus various arts & craft sessions taking place. It was also exciting to see our dome part of the Eccelston Yards Christmas Market at the weekend of the event. Where our busy workshops had a lovely background of live music to work to, filling everyone with festive cheer!
