Brief

The Northbank BID approached We Are Placemaking as they wanted to create an activation as part of their Jubilee celebrations that looked towards the future. We had celebrated the Queen and her past throughout the summer with other London placemaking projects, so for this installation we wanted to look ahead.

What we did

In partnership with the Strand Palace Hotel, we created a pop gallery in a vacant unit within their building. The pop-up exhibition was open to the public for 2 weeks and featured information which aimed to inspire guests to think about how London is evolving and what we hope for the future.

In addition to the colourful and graphical plaques installed across the white walls, we also installed digital elements such as a TV screen showing the Northbank and surrounding area, plus an ipad to gage guests’ feedback and input. We installed a huge illustration of the Northbank on the floor of the unit and included a map of it so visitors could pin stickers highlighting what they would like to see in the coming years and whether that be more greenery or seating. It was a chance for local residents, or visitors to the area, to have their say.
