Brief

Every year, the Howard de Walden Estate (a property estate in the affluent area of Marylebone) hosts a summer event to bring the community together, and showcase the best of the village’s shopping and dining destinations.

As always, the event invited guests to enjoy a variety of entertainment and activities across the two-day festival – from food stalls and alfresco bars to live music, funfair rides, an open-air cinema, community dog show, and so much more.

Over 100 retailers were involved in the event, many of which are invited from the local area and return year-on-year – championing a variety of local businesses. A highlight saw over 40 people carrying out a yoga class with Lululemon.

For the sixth year, Howard de Walden invited We Are Placemaking and our sister agency We Are OPS to provide a range of services which ensured this creative placemaking event could go ahead.

What we did

In the build-up to the festival, We Are Placemaking worked closely with the We Are OPS team to liaise with all the suppliers and stallholders involved in the festival, collecting and reviewing all the relevant documentation.

We worked with over 100 traders and retailers as part of an extensive auditing process to ensure they could all be part of the event.

Along with We Are Ops, we worked with the Howard De Warden Estate to ensure the safe installation, live event, and derig of the open-air cinema, funfair rides and other activations across the weekend.

Deliverables

Supplier Managing & Auditing: enabling over 100 retailers to be part of the event.

Stakeholder Engagement: liaising with multiple stakeholders in the local area to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Live Event Management: working with the client and suppliers on site during the live event.

Traffic Management: ensuring guests were kept safe with management of pedestrianised zones throughout the weekend.

Charity: the event raised £40,000 for nominated charity Greenhouse Sports – providing opportunities for young people who may be disengaged, vulnerable or facing disadvantage to develop the social, thinking, emotional and physical skills that help them thrive.
