Brief

Argent Estate services look after the King’s Cross area, focusing mainly on Coal Drop’s Yard. In this famous London area, guests can enjoy all walks of life, from shopping in high-end fashion stores to picking beautiful botanical flowers. The We Are Placemaking have produced a range of London placemaking projects, as well as many other projects across the UK and Europe. We were therefore asked to carry out this prestigious project for Argent.

The client requested that we stick to their sustainability guidelines and conjure up ideas for an ‘extraordinary Christmas’. Each year, a Christmas tree stands tall in coals drop yard, usually designed by an artist. Additionally, they also wanted a fun and commercial activation to go alongside it.

What we did

The team took to the proposal with ease, throwing many ideas to ensure they won the bid. This year, the team worked closely with the this is loop team to produce a phenomenal light prism tree made from recycled materials! this 28ft tree standing high was a showstopper. There were connecting tunnels at the bottom of the structure, allowing the public to walk through and experience this light tunnel installation. Here, the team commissioned the loop team for this piece and, sourcing all materials, dedicated their time in operations to the lead up to this tree to ensure it was ready for the public to enjoy. We Are Ops also played a considerable part in ensuring that it was installed safely and to the highest standard when placing the tree on site.

The activation the team decided to place down in Coal Drop’s Yard next to the tree was the curling lanes. A sold-out event that took over the yard. We are placemaking decorated, designed and proposed the idea to the argent’s team, knowing it was a game for all ages and a friendly experience. The area included a fully stocked bar and places to hang your coats. We Are Placemaking worked incredibly hard to deliver all operations, staffing health and safety management, and designing the ideas around this.
