Brief
We Are Placemaking were commissioned by the Lexicon Shopping Centre and Bracknell Forest Council to install a series of Spring activation’s that would capture the imagination of local residents and visitors whilst increasing footfall to the Town Centre taking place within the Easter holidays. One of the installations was an original piece called ‘As Water Falls’ created by new media art studio Iregular.
What we did
Iregular is a Montreal-based new media art studio that creates audio visual installations, large-scale sculptures and projections with a focus on interactive and immersive experiences. We approached them with our brief and their response was an incredible large-scale virtual waterfall. Constant cascading digital water gave the idea of a natural waterfall and visitors were able to use their mobile phone flashlights to interact with the piece and change the visual. The piece came in three chapters: Reflection, Transformation and Union to embody the concept of continuity, sustainability, purification and growth.
We Are Placemaking liaised with Iregular from concept to completion to ensure its full delivery and also provided the other elements necessary to overall piece. Technical equipment including a led screen and vibrating motors plus scenographic elements such as mirrors and real water were added to make it even more of an immersive experience. Guests of all ages enjoyed interacting with the piece and it was a truly successful hit with local residents and stakeholders.
It was one of our most exciting projects to date and we loved partnering with Iregular to produce this bespoke and immersive World’s First installation.
