Brief

The Howard de Walden Estate is a prestigious property estate located in the affluent area of Marylebone, London. Each year, they host the Marylebone Summer Festival, a one-day event designed to increase footfall, foster community spirit, and highlight the village’s shopping and dining destinations, with over over 100 independent traders transforming the public realm into a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for all attendees.

The event is free to the public and invites guests to enjoy a wide range of entertainment and activities. This year, attendees could explore food and beverage stalls, play mini golf, enjoy funfair rides, listen to live music, participate in yoga sessions led by Lululemon, and even take part in a community dog show ‘Bark in the Park’(or simply watch!), among many other attractions. 2024 also marked the festival’s 20th anniversary, which was celebrated with a large parade.

For the seventh consecutive year, We Are Placemaking and our sister agency, We Are OPS, proudly supported Howard de Walden Estate with the management and delivery of this special event.

What we did

In the lead up to the event, we collaborated closely with our colleagues at event operations and safety agency, We Are OPS, to coordinate with all suppliers and traders involved. Together, we meticulously collected and reviewed all necessary documents and licenses to ensure the smooth operation of the event.

Additionally, we conducted an extensive auditing process involving over 100 retailers and traders to facilitate their participation in the event.

Throughout the event, we provided continuous support with logistics and event management – overseeing activity in all zones spanning across the village. We also worked with Howard de Walden Estate to ensure the safe installation, live event and break of the funfair, music stage and other activations across the weekend.

Deliverables

Supplier Managing and Auditing – enabling over 100 retailers to be part of the event.

Stakeholder Engagement – liaising with multiple stakeholders in the area to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Live Event Management – working with the client onsite to manage the live event.

Traffic Management – ensuring guests were kept safe with the management of pedestrianised zones throughout the weekend.
