At We Are Placemaking, we are keen to collaborate with innovative companies that make a difference and contribute to not only the events industry, but the wider picture. One company that particularly stands out for us are our friends at Connection Crew, who we have had the pleasure of working with at several of our Placemaking endeavours. Connection Crew are an award-winning crewing company founded in 2005 as part of the homelessness charity, The Connection at St Martins. They provide employment and training opportunities for people who have previously been homeless, giving them a place in their crew to develop purpose, confidence and independence. Since starting, they have grown exponentially and in the last 14 years have successfully employed 248 ex-homeless people to complete 136,017 hours of work.

We are proud to have used Connection Crew for 132 hours of work and will continue to contribute to their success.

A particular highlight working with Connection Crew was the build of ‘Show in the dark’ on Regent street. A celebration of contemporary artists, technological marvels and intimate shows programmed by international author and curator Lucy Johnston. Throughout the course of the evening, an impressive array of boutique independent stores, global flagship brands, galleries and restaurants displayed the talent of up-and-coming creatives. As with all of our projects, organisation was vital and having a reliable and hard-working crewing team allowed for a smooth execution and the best possible result.

‘We are Placemaking always appreciate the team we have from Connection Crew. Our Placemaking events hugely vary from building bespoke installations to the procurement and execution of large scale events. The teams that Connection Crew have supplied over the years have always been so hard working, and help us out from the smallest tasks to the largest. One day they’ll be on site unloading a truck from Amsterdam and the next, they will be assisting with a flower installation or sticking 500 stickers on seats. The crew are the ones that help us get everything set up on time and it’s always a full team effort to produce a high quality event whist sticking to schedule. They are an incredibly key aspect of ensuring everything goes live on time for the client!’
