Brief

St James Quarter is a multi use centre where guests can come and discover exciting activities, dine and drink in rooftop bars and, of course, go shopping. After the success of Edinburgh Style and The Seafood Festival extravaganza in 2021, We Are Placemaking were tasked with turning a vacant unit looked after by Sook into The Beauty Hub. A weekend dedicated to showcasing beauty brands as the launch of H-beauty had now arrived in the centre. An event that is inclusive to all and where guests can come and enjoy a pamper treatment, view brand products and relax for the day.

What we did

We Are Placemaking took to the unit with ease, dressing it with a Wes Anderson feel. Long red draped curtains hung ceiling to floor, with a pink carpet and giant vases filled with beautiful floral decorations stood outside the space. A welcome entrance like no other. The team built the creative space overnight, with the help of a sustainable set design team. In pre-production, the Placemaking team had sketched exciting renders of the area; this helped everyone visualise how the space would look and help transform the unit. Whilst The Beauty Hub was open, The Placemaking team were around to welcome guests into the area and show them around. The Placemaking team also arranged to have an iconic white taxi photo booth placed outside the centre, some giant props around the unit, and additionally, drag queens strutting floor to floor as a fun element for shoppers to interact with. After the event had finished, the team assembled again to de-rig the unit. Taking down the tiled floor vinyl and pink walls, all of which was biodegradable.
